Hello

i used Dell Open Manage Systems Management Software 8.1.0 on a PowerEdge R610 with Windows 2008 R2 S1 (Full patch to June)

On my client computer, it is Windows 7 Sp1 x64 full patchs, with IE11.

Since a few days / weeks, i can't access localy or remotly to the Htt ps://fqdn:1311/

It is only works with Firefox portable (on the server) or Chrome from my computer,

Even with the url on the trusted site or Internal, it dont works :o(

Does someone have the same problem and any idea for a solution?

Thanks for you help.

OMSA 8.3: "This page can’t be displayed"

Hello,

Just coming back from vacation and found that none of our servers are able to run OMSA 8.3, failing with the "This page can’t be displayed" message. It was working fine 2 weeks ago at least. I'm not always checking local OMSA.

I tried to restart the services, reboot the server with no luck. The only fix I found so far is to uninstall/reinstall OMSA.

Are you aware of any issue with MS updates or something?

Regards,

Configure Signing Certificate from XML

Hi,

I'm trying to configure iDRAc (2.30.30.30) using an xml to use our Signing Certifcate. I found the following attribute, and I passed it the path to our CA cert, but it doesn't seem to be applied:

<Attribute>
<AttributeName>CACertificate</AttributeName>
<DisplayName>[Required to fill]</DisplayName>
<AttributeType>[Required to fill]</AttributeType>
<GroupDisplayName>SecuritySSL</GroupDisplayName>
<DisplayOrder>SSL Certificate</DisplayOrder>
<DefaultValue>FALSE</DefaultValue>
<IsReadOnly>string</IsReadOnly>
<AttributeValue>
<ValueName>1</ValueName>
<DisplayValueName>1</DisplayValueName>
</AttributeValue>
</Attribute>

Used this in our config:

<Attribute Name="SecuritySSL.CACertificate">/path/to/cert/ca.p12</Attribute

Doing racadm get idrac doesn't even seem to show a group called SecuritySSL? Can anyone give an example of how this is supposed to be configured?

OMSA 7.4 in ESXi 5.5 stopped working...

I have ESXi 5.5 U2 installed on a Dell PowerEdge R710.  I had only installed those VIB thing to make OMSA 7.4 work.  Well, it was working at the beginning, but I noticed that OMSA is not responding anymore more than half a year ago.

This is a production server so I can't reboot it at will.  Today, I tried to dig into this matter to see if I can make OMSA work again without reboot.

Let me skip other things and let's jump to the point where I'm stuck.  I know that I have to run "dataeng restart" command inside an SSH session.  But I got the following message:

grep: /etc/cim/dell/srvadmin/srvadmin-omilcore/install.ini: No such file or directory
Stopping Systems Management Data Engine:
Stopping dsm_sa_snmpd: Not started          FAILED
Stopping dsm_sa_eventmgrd: Not started      FAILED

                                            FAILED

So, it's telling me that a lot of files are not found!?  I don't understand: I'm the only one to install OMSA (I'm the only admin) and I didn't remove any important files.  Where have they gone?

Anyone has a similar problem?  Let me repeat my environment:

* Dell PE R710

* ESXi 5.5 U2

* OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-7.4.0-876.VIB-ESX55i_A00.zip <-- This is the VIB bundle I used.

Anyway to restart OMSA without rebooting the server?

My Dell XPS 400 freezes when the hard-drive activity light goes on/solid.

Sometimes, my Dell XPS 400 Desktop slows down or freezes when the hard-drive activity light goes on/solid.

Some freeze-ups are short, some are longer, and sometimes it doesn’t happen at all.

I thought that by reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit, downloading/installing all important and optional updates via Windows Update, then installing the Windows 10 Anniversary Update would resolve the problem. But it still persists.

Should I have formatted the drive before reinstalling Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit?

Could it be that I need a new hard drive to replace the current one (a WD Blue 500GB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - 7200 RPM SATA 6 Gb/s 16MB Cache 3.5 Inch)?

dataeng should be removed from OMSA's VIB package for ESXi 5.5 and later!

I have ESXi 5.5 as well as 6.0.

I have also installed the OMSA VIB package for these servers.

I have just found that the command "/opt/dell/srvadmin/bin/dataeng status" always returns the message saying that dsm_* are stopped but OMSA is still working.

In other words, the command "dataeng" gives false negative!

If this program is not supposed to do anything, PLEASE remove it from the package instead of being there to confuse people!

How do I get my Dell Backup and Recovery Local Premium Edition Upgrade to work on Windows 10

Since I upgraded to Win10 my Dell Backup and Recovery Local Premium Edition Upgrade is no longer recognised and I am told to purchase it again.

Has anyone any ideas on how I can continue to use my Premium Backup and Recovery software?

Dell OpenManage Inventory Agent and McAfee rules

$

Hi,

I am investigating the deployment of the Dell OpenManage Inventory Agent with SCCM 2012 via SCUP 2011.

The deployment works and the application installs fine but there is where I have a problem. The application runs an inventory collection which is a compressed archive file with a large number of programs/scripts to collect all the required data then generate the WMI classes.

This archive appears to be extracted to C:\Windows\Temp and seven of the scripts are vbscript. We have a McAfee security rule which blocks all execution of CScripts in this path and I cannot remove that rule or workaround it with exceptions based on path.

Is it possible for the invcol.exe (archive file) to be extracted to another location?

Upgrading OMSA 7.4 to latest

$

Hi, noob here needs some advice on upgrading an install of OMSA v7.4

Server is R320 with Windows Server 2012 R2

Whilst reading the install instructions for v8.3, it says:

You can upgrade to the latest version of Server Administrator from any of the previous three versions. For example, upgrade to Server Administrator 7.3 is supported only for Server Administrator versions 7.0 and later.

So my questions are:

1) Can I upgrade MAJOR release versions without reinstalling?  Eg, v7.4 to v8.2 since I think these are within 3 released versions, or is the above statement referring to MINOR versions?

2) If I can do a stepped upgrade from say v7.4 to v8.2 to v8.3, what downloads would I need?  Do I use the full download or the upgrade only download, or can either be used for the purposes of an upgrade (ie, the upgrade version is just offered as a smaller download)?

3) If my only choice is to uninstall v7.4 then install something newer, will I lose all my settings too and have to reconfigure?

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

idrac "http server settings" for automatic firmware updates

i cant find any docs on this.. I am trying to use the firmware auto update feature.

I dont see how to set up this

(see attached)

when I put in the webserver.. it tries and then fails.. but what am I supposed to put in the document root?  i tried putting in firmimg.d7 and nothing happens..

the only docs I found are below.. but why does it only explain some of it and then direct me to
"see the iDRAC Online Help"   I dont know what that means..
does anyone have a working example of the idrac getting FW from a web server?

Updating device firmware using HTTP

You can directly connect to the HTTP site from iDRAC to perform the firmware updates. You can use the Windows-based update packages (DUPs) and a catalog file available on the HTTP site instead of creating custom repositories.
Before performing an update using the repository, make sure that:
  • Lifecycle Controller is enabled.
  • You have Server Control privilege to update firmware for devices other than iDRAC.

To update device firmware using HTTP:

  1. In the iDRAC web interface, go to Overview > iDRAC Settings > Update and Rollback . The Firmware Update page is displayed.
  2. On the Update tab, select HTTP as the File Location.
  3. In the HTTP Server Settings section, enter the HTTP details. For information about the fields, see the iDRAC Online Help.

OMSA 8.3: No storage controller detected.

On Win2012 64 bit, I just upgraded from OMSA 7.4 (32 bit) to OMSA 8.2 (32 bit) and while the storage controller was detected in 7.4, it did not detect the new drives that were just inserted. I hence uninstalled 8.2 (32 bit) and installed 8.3 (64 bit) and it too fails to detect the storage controller.

How do I make OMSA detect the storage controller?

The 4 DSM services are all running.

Server is Dell R720xd.

Possible SNMP Leak in Command Monitor?

$

I am running Windows 2012 R2 Essentials and have installed Dell Command Monitor 9.1.  64-bit.  I am having a problem that over several days the SNMP 32-bit process keeps increasing memory usage until it maxes out at it's 2 gig limit.  No visual problem other than it's causing system alerts because I have less than X amount of memory left, but apparently something is not releasing the memory.  I have a number of SNMP calls to the server, however the only one physically "installed" is the Dell Command Monitor software.  Is there any known memory leaks with Command Monitor?  Know it hasn't been updated in a decent amount of time so not sure if anyone has evaluated compatibility issues with 2012 R2.

EDIT:  Note I have a 64-bit SNMP Service running using minimal memory and a 32-bit SNMP Service using loads of memory.  The 64-bit one has an expandable branch showing it's running the SNMP Service, the 32-bit one doesn't expand but does point to a snmp.exe file in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder and also calls itself the "SNMP Service"

EDIT2:   I can say if I kill the 32-bit version of SNMP memory clears up but monitoring starts failing.  64-bit is still running and Command Monitor is 64-bit though looks like it's using a 32-bit SNMP version.  I can say on my Windows 7 64-bit computer with the same setup, both snmp executables exist, but only the 64-bit one seems like it's showing in task manager.

Latest iDRAC7 for R720xd?

Am I correct in assuming that v1.66.65 is the latest iDRAC7 for R720xd?

If not, could you let me know which is the latest? I will not be buying a license for iDRAC8, at least not without knowing what has changed.

FX2s: Viewing of server configuration XML file import errors

$

Hello,

I'm using racadm to apply server configuration to the FX2s CMCs. The import operation completes with errors:

racadm.exe -r fx002.somedomain.sometld -i set -f fx002.xml -t xml

Message=[SYS055: Import of system configuration XML file operation completed with errors.]

With the R330/R430 servers, I'm able to use WBEM to determine where the configuration is failing and subsequently fix it, e.g.

$cs = New-CimSession -ComputerName r330.somedomain.sometld -Authentication Basic `
-Credential (Get-Credential -UserName root -Message "Provide Drac User Details") `
-SessionOption (New-CimSessionOption -SkipCACheck -SkipCNCheck -SkipRevocationCheck `
     -Encoding utf8 -UseSsl) -Port 443

(Invoke-CimMethod -InputObject `
     (Get-CimInstance -CimSession $cs `
     -ResourceUri "schemas.dell.com/.../DCIM_LCRecordLog" `
     -Namespace root/dcim) -CimSession $cs -MethodName "GetConfigResults" `
     -Arguments @{JobID="JID_718737089141"}).ConfigResults

Is it possible to do the same with the FX2s CMCs? (At the moment using the above fails)
If not, what's the alternative in identifying which attributes in the configuration import are causing the failures?

Dell OpenManage 8.3 - Linux cache buffers

$

Hello,

I've updated Dell OMSA to version 8.3.0 on a Dell Poweredge R720, running Redhat 6.7 64bit.

The server has 512GB of RAM.

I noticed that after the OMSA packages were updated and services were restarted, the kernel buffers used by Linux to stage disk writes into cache, have dropped significantly. It looked that the cache buffers were flushed.

Now, this is not something that I would worry too much, that's how the Linux kernel works. I happened to noticed on this particular server because we are depending heavily on disk cache on this server for performance reasons.

Does anybody know if restarting Dell OMSA services will also trigger a drop of disk cache buffers ?

Thank you for your attention.

iDRAC 7: Disable email warnings on failed login

The latest iDRAC 7 has 19 pages of configuration and among them somewhere hidden under a name I cannot identify, there is an option to email when a failed login occurs. The message ID is USR0034.

The server is exposed and hence we get a lot of emails. Can anyone help me disable these emails?

New to Dell Servers (coming from HP servers and management)

$

I have worked almost exclusively on HP servers with the past 5 years being almost entirely with HP blades.

I now work for a firm that is all Dell PowerEdge servers (r730 is current standard).  We have about 70 vSphere hosts using multiple X520 and i350 NICs and Qlogic 2562 HBAs.   None of these devices are Dell branded.

We are using the latest version of the OMSA plugin for vCenter.

Does Dell branding matter when it comes to upgrade-ability in IDRAC/LifeCycle manager?

Should I be able to see and upgrade the Qlogic HBAs from IDRAC.

The i350 cards we using could be V1 or V2 and are mixed our servers.   Some of these NICs dont report FW in OMSA and are not upgradable.

Is OMSA the best tool for our environment?    Is there a best practice doc for OMSA/IDRAC for vSphere hosts?

Thanks,

-Matt
