contact for "Dell Technical Updates" emails from eSupport ?

$

Hello,

I am subscribed to get emails when drivers and firmware are released for my server models. These emails almost never are as intended. I sometimes get emails with no updates and most times don't get emails when DUPs are released. I see nowhere in the email how to contact Dell about the quality of the emails. I want the emails but I want them to contain legit info and be sent when new drivers/firmware are released.

Does anyone have the contact info for who manages  "Dell Technical Updates" from eSupport?

Hi, I'm looking for help on using the Redfish API with examples in PowerShell. I found some in Python but would prefer to use PowerShell. I need to do the following tasks.

1. Ensure LDAP enabled, if not , configure and enable it.

2. Reset password for admin account

3. Verify password for admin user.

I found some functions someone wrote but haven't figured out how to do what I"m looking to do yet. I'm new to PowerShell and Rest. Any help would be appreciated.

BIOS install from BIOS recovery file during OSD

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but will try anyhow.

My college want to do BIOS configuration during OSD (image deployment with MDT) when preparing different Dell PC models to Win10, but I want to use the CCTK tool to do the configuration.

My college will make the necessary configuration manually and then do a BIOS backup, and then during OSD deployment make a recovery from the backup for each model. I want to use the tool CCTK in WinPE and then do one configuration at a time with the necessary commands/parameters for "Legacy to UEFI, Enable SecureBoot, Enable virtualization".
Which of these to suggestion would be best to prepare the BIOS to Windows 10 installation?

Best Regards,

Daniel Skaaning

Dell's OMSA 9.0.1 for ESXi is a Joke?

(previous post seems wrongly posted OME forum: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/systems-management/f/4494/t/20017699

Hi Dell Folks,

I managed to have one of my VMware ESXi host installed with OMSA (OpenManage 9.0.1 for ESXi 600) via VMware's Update Manager. That said, it is from official source of Dell's VMware depot. (https://vmwaredepot.dell.com/index.xml)

Installation was fine.

When I try to connect from my OMSA DWS (either from server or my management desktop),  it said something about version compatibility.

OK, I try to find a newer version of OMSA, sadly the best I can find is 8.5, that's my installed one.

So, there should be an newer OMSA coming? Or 9.0.1 in VIBs format for ESXi is too soon to be placed in Dell's VMware depot?

Should I go thru the SSH thingy to issue uninstall command, tho I am not too urgent on this.

Thanks for looking into this.

Cheers every Dell's users and experts.

Which ports do Dell DUPs use?

Hi. We're deploying a Dell rack server in a remote location and need to present the host network group with the ports we need open for OMSA, updates, etc.

Does anyone know which ports Dell DUPs need open in order to run firmware and driver updates? I have the Port Information Guide for OMSA/iDRAC but can't find anything about DUPs that are run from the OS.

Thanks.

PowerEdge T110 SAS 6 Controller Card drives degraded Cannot find hard drives or Initalize

Hi all,

Wonder if someone may assist me here.

Old PowerEdge T110, Previously set up by so called IT person, not using Raid from what I can tell.

Anyway I have 2 x 456g Dell hard drives that came with system.

SAS 6 Controller card also came with system, cannot initialize them or me. As you can see from Photo they are degraded.  I have gone into Ctrl R to try and initialize, but it doesn't even find the drives.

I can only assume the previous person set them up using BIOS, although I cannot repeat what he did that way either.   I have one or twice got one of rives during BIOS mode to try to booty to Windows 2008 ***, but get blue screen error which is so quick, I had to capture message on screen via video camera. So I could slow it down to see error message. Photo of error message below.

I do have backups on USB drives for system, but I have know idea as I said how it was originally set up, so they are not Suggested good to me, as settings at Hardware level I suspect makes backups useless.

Error I do an F disk, well I would if I could repat my action and get it to get to that stage again.  Currently running ingretely test using system services UEFI

Controller card pasts tests okay.

BUT the test for hard drives, is not even an option I can choose.

Well let forget about Raid issue for now.

If Bios mode won’t boot even to a boot blue screen message and Raid won't initialise disks, what else may I try?

Man did this person know what he as doing or what!

I am going to update system using ISO boot for all of the firmware, Bios etc

As per this link.

But

Thanks

Phil

Any thought advice welcome

Thanks

Phil

OMSA and iSM together?

$

Dear All,

Our company recently shift to have Dell's server as our default one. I am figuring out the necessary tools to be installed on.

May I know if iSM and OMSA can be installed together?

How about it is an ESXi host?

If it is not recommended, then it is not compatible or simply just not recommended?

Thanks for checking.

Cheers,

Joe

R720xd: OMSA 8.3: No storage controller detected (again).

My last attempt to regain control of the controller without rebooting failed:

en.community.dell.com/.../19989522

Now I am experiencing the problem again.

We have inserted 4 disks in order to create 2 new virtual disks. iDRAC (Version 2.32.31.30 (Build 03)) can see the controller, but cannot create new virtual disks without rebooting. So I resort to using OMSA. OMSA can create the first virtual disk just fine and then loses contect to the storage controller. iDRAC still has contact to the storage controller, but doesn't reflect the new virtual disk. I soft-reboot using "racadm racreset soft" and iDRAC now reflects the new configuration. But OMSA still cannot see the controller.

I then check if racadm is able to see the controller, and it is. These commands all reflect the current configuration:

racadm raid get controllers

racadm raid get pdisks -o

racadm raid get vdisks -o

Yet OMSA cannot see the controller for some reason. I have tried restarting the 4 DSM services but this didn't help. I enabled full debug on the DSM Data Manager service and have attached the first 2 minutes of log in hope someone can point me to the culprit.

iDRAC web can see the controller and the newly created virtual disk.

OMSA 8.3 cannot see the controller.

racadm can see the controller and the newly created virtual disk.

Windows cannot see the newly created virtual disk(!)

Three questions:

Is it possible to restore controller control to OMSA without rebooting and how?

Is it possible to use racadm to create virtual disks?

How do I make the newly created disk visible to Windows (2012)?

The PERC H710P Mini (Embedded) has firmware version 21.3.2-0005 and driver version 6.805.03.00 as reported by iDRAC (Windows agrees on the driver version; can't see firmware version).

I also tried MegaCli, but it only gives return code 0x8 (or 0x1 if I use wrong command line arguments).

Dell R740/R740xd iDRAC Issues

Hey Guys/Gals,

My company has ordered ~300 Dell R740s/R740xd, so far we've had issues on every single server. There are 4 different issues so far;

1. iDRAC Initilization Errors
2. 10G Ports Won't Link
3. iDRAC Command-Line stops working
4. racadm commands won't work.

So far, the only fix we've found is to do a Power Drain, however this isn't possible, considering we've got another 1,000 servers coming in, and we already have ~300 servers racked.

Has anyone else had any problems with this so far? I know these are fairly new but this many issues is a bit nuts.

Sincerely,
Thomas

Hello friends.

I faced a problem with Open Manage working on my R420 Power Edge server. I tried 2 versions of OMSA 8.1 and 8.5, installation done through ssh, Completed without errors.

Trying to log on through browser, but no connection, telnet to 1311 is not passing. Also there is no listener on server side for 1311 port. And can not find omsa service on machine. But when I run the command of installed software Open Manage appear.

Any suggestions?

Update -

When I run SysMgt from remote server(2012R2)  I can enter the IP address of remote machine (Dell 420). It gives response - request timed out. VMWare version 6.0 on Dell server.

Best regards.

Pls remove

iDrac8 generic ldap directory services bind

Under user authentication, generic ldap directory services if anonymous bind is not allowed by the LDAP server I am require to provide a bind dn and bind password.

Is there are way to configure this to bind to the ldap server using the credentials provided by the user logging into the web GUI ? This is what is done when using directory service on HP ilo and is preferable to configuring a special account just to use for binding. I have not found a way of doing this on the iDrac yet?

OMSA 8.5 Login failed....Connection Error

I am getting the below error at login, no event logs giving any further information.

Win 8.1 machine, 64 bit.

I have tried https:// (IP, locahost, hostname, 127.0.0.1):1311

I can login to the web server side without issue but it only allows shutdown of the web server and viewing the web server logs, not the actual system administrator.

I have shutdown AV and firewall, started both back up, no joy

I know the username is valid....I have also attempted Domain admin, additional local admin accounts without success.

Uninstalled and re-installed no joy either.

Does anyone have a suggestions at this point, and please review the already attempted solutions above before replying unless you have an alternative to how I've already tried the above.

Cheers

iDRAC v6 firmware update using racadm from a remote Windows desktop

I have an iDRAC v6 with firmware v1.9 that I need to update.  It resides on a dell r610 VMware host.

The browser based update fails (this is a known problem according to Dell).

I can putty to the iDRAC and have run

racadm fwupdate  -u -g -d "C:\Sources\Dell\iDRAC 6\ESM_Firmware_9GJYW_WN32_2.90_A00.exe"

where the path is a path on the Windows machine from which I am accessing the iDRAC.  This fails as well.  All other racadm commands I have tried work fine, except the update firmware command.

Can you provide an example of the exact syntax needed to upgrade v6 iDRAC firmware from a remote windows desktop location.

Dell USB-C Dock (WD15) and Bitlocker on Windows 7

We have the Latitude 5480, Skylake chipset and TPM 1.2.  Have UEFI enabled and after installing Windows 10 I can connect the WD15 without any Bitlocker issues.

I loaded Win7 on the same system (UEFI enabled with Legacy Option ROMS enabled) and the OS works fine but I get prompted for Bitocker recovery key when I reboot with the dock connected (imaged without the dock).

I called Dell support and they said it is not their problem, contact Microsoft.  Microsoft Support recommended that I go back to Legacy mode but that does not work either.  I upgraded to TPM 2.0 with UEFI and that allows boot cycles without getting the Bitlocker recovery key prompt.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If so, have you had success in automating the firmware update to TPM 2.0?

Will multiple updates be sequenced correctly when using IDrac Update?

$

We usually update firmware, idrac, bios, lifecycle, etc. through Windows. But we are considering to change this practice to using the Update facility in IDrac (under IDrac Settings -> Update and Rollback) instead.

When we update through Windows, there are frequently multiple updates available for each server. We sequence the updates ourselves according to this guide: http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/extras/m/white_papers/20408841

We do this because we at one time managed to leave a server completely inoperable after updating BIOS, IDrac and LC in the wrong sequence. Dell had to replace some of the hardware to get the server working again.

Question: Using the Update facility in IDrac, we can actually upload multiple updates at the same time. If we do that, will the update facility in IDrac take care of sequencing the updates correctly for us?

Any opinion on the benefits of updating through IDrac or through Windows?

Thanks.

How to encrypt WS-MAN traffic

Not for sure if this has already been discussed, my apologies if so.

I work in a DOD environment where my OME server needs to be STIG'd. Part of the STIG's will not allowing unencrypted WinRM traffic. I have been trying to research a way to configure iDRAC to encrypt the ws-man traffic during inventory and discovery, as well as out-of-band updating. Just not for sure how to properly set this up. Any help is appreciated!
